Online Classes Info Sheet

Google Classroom

  • Registered students will receive an emailed invitation to join their google classroom. Upon accepting the invitation they will be able to see posted materials, links and assignments. This is also where they will submit any work assigned by their instructor. Students can communicate with one another and their instructor through the online classroom which is accessible to them 24/7/365. Materials will not be removed and are available for review at any time.

Zoom

  • Registered students will receive an emailed invitation to join the Zoom meeting which repeats each week with the same number and password. Each meeting is recorded and posted to the classroom for one week or more for those who were absent or for review.
  • CTSI utilizes Meeting Managers along with Instructors. The Manager starts the meeting and takes attendance through the waiting room feature, assuring only registered students may enter. The manager runs the meeting, monitoring all students, helping to mute and enable microphones and assists the Instructor with materials and links for their classroom. At times during the meeting student mics will be on, and at other times they will be directed to answer questions or make comments by typing through the chat feature. All student cameras must be turned on at all times.

Tips:

  • Students can access the classroom and zoom links through many devices. Meetings could have as many as twenty five faces, so a larger screen allows students to see more people at once in gallery view and is therefore recommended.
  • To avoid sound distortion, one device should be shared if more that one student is in the class in the same room. When using more than one device in the same room the sound should be turned off on all but one device.
  • It is best to set your child up in a private space away from household noises like televisions, vacuum cleaners, and family conversations. They should have a 5×5 foot area in which to move in front of their device.

CTSI instructors hold themselves accountable in offering a quality performing arts education and it is difficult to gage effectiveness if students fail to participate fully. Students should be encouraged to review and practice daily. Assignments should be turned in on time so that the instructor has time to offer feedback before the next class.

Please let us know if your child will be missing their Zoom class. You can text or call 812-228-4554, email at mail@childrenstheatresi.org, or message us on facebook.

If your child is having difficulty using google classroom or zoom please let us know so that we can offer assistance!
